The Durham Street Methodist Church has been on its Durham Street site for over 150 years. Post the 2010/2011 earthquakes little of the original building was able to be salvaged and the Church commissioned a new complex for this historic site. Designed by Wilkie and Bruce Architects, the brief required a multipurpose facility that would engage with its urban surrounds and re-establish the presence of the Methodist Church in the inner City. Some significant pieces of carved stone were salvaged and mounted around the new building, and the original main doors have been rehung inside the foyer. The complex honours its past heritage and looks to the future.
