Montrose Station Homestead

Entrant: Wilson & Hill Architects

Badly damaged by the Kaikoura earthquakes, this Cecil Wood designed rural homestead has been superbly and faithfully restored by its owners. Much of the original timber and brick construction has been retained and many original features skilfully reintegrated back into its original heritage fabric. The Judges were very impressed that this badly damaged building had been brought back to life with such careful attention to heritage conservation. The commitment to do this has retained an important part of North Canterbury’s rural landscape and history.
