Heritage Tourism Award

Sign of the Kiwi

Entrant: Christchurch City Council

Set at the top of a popular Port Hills cycling, walking and driving crossroads, the Sign of the Kiwi, part of an early 20th century group of road houses, was significantly damaged in the Canterbury earthquakes. Now fully strengthened and restored by the Christchurch City Council and its heritage consultants, this significant listed heritage building is once again open as a well visited café in this much visited tourist and leisure spot.
