The Museum complex at Okains Bay presents a unique bi-cultural heritage destination in Canterbury. It incorporates a range of relocated, purpose built and replica buildings. These include a Maori Meeting house and colonial cottages from the first days of Canterbury settlement. The Museum contains exhibits from early Maori habitation, from whaling, farming and rural life. The Judges’ considered it an outstanding heritage destination.
