awards update

In light of the recent Christchurch and central Canterbury region earthquakes and the resulting devastation to buildings in and around the city, the 2011 Christchurch Heritage Awards have been put on hold.

The city's heritage has suffered a terrible blow with many of the region's historic buildings severely damaged and in some cases completely destroyed. Whilst ensuring the safety of the people of Christchurch is the first priority it is important that we also focus on the repair and restoration of the city’s heritage buildings.

Once the rebuilding of Christchurch has commenced, organisers of the Christchurch Heritage Awards will begin the task of reviewing the structure of the awards to ensure that we continue to promote and celebrate heritage retention, conversation and education by recognising excellence through a quality and innovative awards programme.

Along with our sponsors our thoughts are with the people of Christchurch and those that have lost so much in recent months.
